11am: Grow Your Grass Long for Nature

Grow Your Grass Long for NatureJoin us to explore the benefits of long grass, and the invertebrates that depend on this habitat.

We are in a biodiversity crisis. Many of our invertebrate species are in decline. The great news we all can do something to help!

Over recent years ‘No Mow May’ has inspired many of us to let our lawns grow and flower over the weeks of May (and sometimes before and beyond!). This is one way that we can help pollinators in their search for nectar and pollen at this time of year - but how many of us have stopped to think about the benefits of grasses?

Grasses are flowering plants too, and many species have a place in providing habitat and foraging material for a wide variety of invertebrate species.

We will discuss the benefits of grasses from a wildlife perspective; acknowledge that grasses are flowering plants in their own right; understand how grasses can play an important role in providing habitat for a wide range of invertebrate (and vertebrate) species, and how these in turn can support other species and other ecosystems, thereby leading to greater biodiversity gain. After this workshop you will see pots, lawns and verges differently. Grasses are important too!

12 midday: Plant Health From Soil Health

Plant Health From Soil HealthJoin us for a deep dive into how the health of our plants is directly linked to the health of our soil!

This talk will explore how tiny soil organisms are integral to producing healthy plants that in turn produce food that is more nourishing. Our produce will have everything from a good dose of minerals to a full array of antioxidants and in-between more complex, and healthful fats and proteins that in turn boost our health.

We give answers in the form of just 6 principles that will help you do not just this, but also create lasting soil structure, help your soil hold onto water, and protect against pests and disease. Don't miss out on this opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of plant and soil interactions!
