Once again, a good turn out of students from Newton Rigg, and other University of Cumbria sites, guaranteed a fun filled, informative, educational session.
At a WWOOF council meeting hosted by the Low-Impact Living Initiative at Redfield Community, I saw Redfield's cob oven, nicknamed the Gruffalo - though we didn't get a chance to fire it up.

NJ reported that he had been successful in obtaining a start-up grant from RSA of £1950 to help fund the project.
The project is to last approx 8 months – ie., 3 months planning and 5 months oven building.
The RSA has promised nearly £2000 to help with the Oven building project. Efforts are underway to select some trial sites.
The PACT Food action group was invited by Nick Jones to The Watermill, Little Salkeld for our July 2010 meeting. During a lively discussion we decided that we should celebrate Lammas-Tide (loaf-mass) at the watermill by building an outdoor wood-fired bread oven or ‘cob’, which we did under Niall Wildewood’s direction.
