Reminder about tomorrows Devonshire Arcade Meeting with Space Savers
Freshers week event - got about 10 students, there was some confusion about venue and time. A number of Fresher also came to the Freegle open day. NJ to follow up on further contacts with Newton Rigg and possibly organise a discussion meeting there on say Permaculture.
Resources & Waste
Lunch meeting talked about revitalising the plastic bag campaign this time as in - bring your own bag - rather than hand out free ones. Going to talk to supermarkets about their policies.
Resources and waste discussion suggested. PD reported that SLDC has a new group with a remit to talk about improving recycling with group members drawn from various county waste management units. Shanks does the waste management for CC.
Freegle Shop was attended by approximately 100 people and was empty at the end of the day, Thanks to NJ for the Freegle film for the funding bid.
Apple Day went ahead in a reduced format with the apple related stalls on the higher ground round the house. PACT stand was showing juicing by steamer and attracted a lot of people to taste the juice and learn about the steamer. PC said that we need to make more effort to convey the PACT message as such events and there had been some enquiries. CC said we should have a clipboard for recording interest, email addresses etc.
Car Club report had been received from MH by CC and forwarded but only a few hours before the meeting so little time to read it yet. Gist is that there is insufficient interest in it in Penrith. If we are going to present this at the Steering Group could it be part of a discussion on Transport. (NJ). CC to read the detailed report.
Discussion on future Steering Group meeting with debates
Agreed it was too late now to organise a debate for November as the meeting is only 2 weeks away. Also agreed that it would be useful to have the next few debates lined up so they can appear in the events calendar and when talking to people we have so forthcoming activities.
Next Debate December then February and April. Topics to be drawn from R&W, Transport, Food and Climate. December debate on R&W if possible (CC)
Other Events
Skill share
Jam
Fuel
(no sure about these, this is just what I wrote)
Story Giants Book due out in November price £8.99, some for PACT to sell.
Raising funds for PACT
Document from PW was discussed.
Agreed that not enough of us to approve membership fee but these suggestions should be adopted. Definitely need some things to sell at meetings and events as discussed before as this should make events self funding. PACT bags, aprons, how to leaflets and refreshments such soup and bread. Discuss at Steering Group.
AOB
Devonshire Arcade Meeting Weds 19th - Space Savers who are going to try and get the Arcade fully ocuppied over the next 6 months.
NJ introduced the idea of a Transition Film Competition to coincide with the main Transition Event next year (June). Agreed we should go ahead as this is a low cost/low risk way of upping our profile. Some details need to be discussed eg entry fee or not, prizes etc.
Meeting closed at 21:10
