Chatsworth Farm Shop reduces plastic bag usage

Nigel has passed on this press cutting:

"It is very encouraging to know that the current fashion for recycling is beginning to pay dividends to the environment. At Chatsworth Farm Shop (Derbyshire) during June and July this year staff issued 86,046 fewer plastic bags. Almost 3,500 heavy duty re-usable bags had been bought by customers, which meant that the shop would be using four fewer pallets of plastic bags, equivalent to three tonnes, from a factory in Asia. The savings in travel equate to almost 5,000 nautical miles and 172 UK road miles. So far the Farm Shop's recycling policy has enabled it to reduce its landfill waste by more than 50 per cent."
