“The Aftermath” exhibition by Malawian artist Ellis Tayamika Singano, at Penrith’s 4a Gallery, (next to the EVAN Gallery), Corney Place, Penrith CA11 7PX, opens on Saturday 25 November. The vibrant and expressive batik paintings vividly convey local people’s experiences in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Freddy, which devastated Malawi in March 2023. People in Malawi continue to suffer with food shortages and soaring inflation as a consequence of the disaster. The Cyclone was the worst ever recorded in south-eastern Africa.
Ellis is contributing 30% of the proceeds of sales directly to survivors of the cyclone to help them rebuild their lives.
